Classic American Hamburger
Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef (preferably 80% lean)
- 4 hamburger buns
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 tomato, sliced
- Lettuce leaves
- Cheese slices (cheddar, American, or your favorite)
- Ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Pickles (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your grill or stovetop skillet to medium-high heat.
- Form the ground beef into 4 equal patties. Press a small indent in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent them from puffing up during cooking.
- Season the patties with salt and pepper on both sides.
- Grill or cook the patties on the skillet for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium doneness (or adjust to your preferred level of doneness).
- While cooking, toast the hamburger buns on the grill or skillet until lightly golden.
- Add cheese on top of the patties during the last minute of cooking to melt it.
- Assemble the burgers: place lettuce, the patty with melted cheese, tomato, onion, and pickles (optional) on the bottom bun. Top with ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise to taste, then add the top bun.
