Australian Meat Pie Recipe 🥧
This classic Australian meat pie is a favorite across the country, known for its flaky pastry and rich, savory filling. Perfect for a quick snack or a hearty meal!
Ingredients (Makes 4 individual pies)
For the filling:
- 500g (1 lb) ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp flour
- 250ml (1 cup) beef broth
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp tomato sauce (ketchup)
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp soy sauce (optional)
- Salt & pepper to taste
For the pastry:
- 2 sheets of puff pastry
- 1 egg yolk (for egg wash)

Prepare the filling:
- Heat the olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sauté until soft.
- Add the ground beef and cook until browned.
- Sprinkle in the flour, stir well to combine, and cook for another minute.
- Pour in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce, tomato paste, and soy sauce.
- Season with salt and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for 15-20 minutes until thick. Set aside to cool.

Assemble the pies:
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Cut circles of puff pastry to fit into small pie tins or muffin trays. Press them gently into the molds.
- Fill each pastry shell with the meat filling.
- Cut additional pastry circles for the lids, place them on top, and seal the edges by pressing with a fork.
- Brush the tops with egg yolk for a golden finish.

- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
